Who We Are

The Sangha

This forest monastery is a sector of the Sri Kalyani Yogashrama, and functions as a cooperate branch of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya. Since its inception, the great involvement of our incumbent monk, Venerable Pannasila, in promoting dhamma related work for the progression of the Buddha Sasana is of immense value. Moreover, his pupils Venerable Ratnapure Kovida Thero, a Meditation Master and the Tripitaka Acarya, Venerable Ellegama Pannajeeva Thero, along with twenty other local and foreign pupil monks reside in this Monastery, engaged in meditation practices as well as providing other services for the progress of the dhamma.

The Origin

The land was donated with much piety by a lay disciple (Upasaka) Podi Singho and his family to the Kalyani Yogashrama Bhikkhus, for the longevity of the Buddha Sasana, on 29 April 2018. From then onwards, under the direction of our Chief incumbent, Most Venerable Ellegama Pannasila Thero, a doyen of Tripitaka and a meditation Master, an environment was created that was most suitable for Vipassana meditation, for twenty bhikkhus and fifty laity, with residential facilities.

About

The Tradition of Meditation

This tradition of meditation in its pristine purity originated in Myanmar, which was assimilated and practiced by the Most Venerable Arhat Ledi Sayadaw, and then passed down to his pupils Anagamo Saygi U Thet, Sayagi U ba Khin and to the most recent Meditation Master Satya Narayan Goenka, in this Teacher – Pupil tradition. Understanding the value of Vipassana meditation, S N Goenka spread this technique all around the world, one of which is Dhamma Pradipa which functions in this Vipassana Tradition.
